sidecar tubs

This photo of a line of sidecar bodies was taken in a barn in Germany in the late 1970s.

Belgian S500

Here's my first Steib S500 , which came to me from Belgium by way of a friend of mine out West. This sidecar has the optional coil spring suspension on the sidecar wheel. While better then a rigid axle, the ride still left something to be desired.

R12ref.jpg (25702 bytes)

Another R12 reference photo for those folks that love these old flathead bikes, and just can't look at enough new photos of them! Other then the post-war headlight & seat, the missing horn, and British tail light, this is a very nice example.

big tank plunger bike

This photo of a later (full width brake drum) plunger twin was taken at a bike show in California. From here it's not possible to tell if the tank is a Heinrich or one of the fiberglass copies. The front half of the original rear fender can be seen under the custom seat.

two tone R50

Over the years I've seen a few two tone BMWs, but these were always owner modified paint jobs - and they never did anything for me. Recently a fellow I know found this one owner, unrestored 1960 R50 - in original two tone factory paint. I've yet to see the bike in person, but so far I have to say that it really looks legitimate.

police R60/2

Here's a nice photo of an original paint 1969 police R60/2 from the Netherlands. It was sold by the police in 1971, and has been in one family ever since. The siren, radio, and lights were removed before the bike was sold, but it's still equipped with the factory 12 volt electrics. It was originally fitted with a matching white Hollandia sidecar, which has since been removed.   North American riders will note that the rest of the world still didn't have reflectors on the headlight ears and rear fender flap that the US government required on bikes sold in the USA.

painted rim

About two years ago I found an NOS plunger rim in the attic of an old BMW shop. Now safely home - I cleaned the dust off of it so that you can see how the old rims are painted. The flash washed out the calipers, but if you could read it you'd see that the silver paint in the middle extends on to the flat portion of the rim for 12 mm.

vw to bmw adapter

Off and on for the last 15 years I've been on the lookout for a VW to BMW adapter plate, and just recently I found one. This one is not the more common WILLIS plate, but another (unknown) brand. It's beautifully cast and machined, and ready to adapt a VW 4 cylinder engine to a /2 bike.

Craven Golden Arrows

Saddlebags have always been popular on BMWs, and here are a set of top-of-the-line Craven Golden Arrows that would look great on any bike. I had a set of these bags on my R90/6, and they were a real nice bag to live with. They were one of the earliest easily removable bags offered, and it was truly possible to arrive at your destination and take them in like normal luggage.

Austro Omega sidecar

Not just another Steib, this sidecar is an early 1950s Austro-Omega. Made after the war but in the pre-war style, these sidecars are not often seen here in the USA. This one was found in original unrestored condition and restored by my friend Denis. All the colors and the Art Deco decorations are original.  This sidecar is going on his R51/2, but until then it rests in a third floor spare bedroom!
